The main botanical in this 8 Botanical Gin is the leaf of the Spekboom tree or in Xhosa, called iGwanitsha. It is found predominantly in the Eastern Cape, and especially in the semi-arid Karoo region of South Africa. Spekboom trees grow to between 2 and 5 meters tall and can live up to 200 years. The plant is easy to grow and can survive frost, drought, and fire and is ten times more effective than the Amazon rainforest at removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. One hectare of Spekboom can remove 4.2 tonnes of CO2 per year.The leaves of the Spekboom tree is edible and very high in Vitamin C, which adds to the well balanced lemon-citrus heart to this perfect pouring Gin.
